Product: Arko Shave
Stick
Today we take another look at shaving sticks. The one that
comes to mind we have seen in just about every shave of the day posting at a
few dozen times a year and that would be the Arko shaving stick. The packaging is unmistakably ARKO in its
iconic red wrapping. I received mine from a friend overseas along with some
other fantastic products to try. I kept picking it up but then pushing it to
the side because I didn't really enjoy the scent. I've avoided this product for
as long as I possibly could and now is the time for seeing what this little
stick is made of.
Since 1957 the Arko shaving stick hasn't changed much and
some say this is a good thing because they like the nostalgic look and feel of
the product. You have to peel away it's wrapping in order to use this product
which then leaves it exposed to the elements and there is no way of really
closing it back up. I'm ok with it but I see so much room for improvement on
that and having a redesign for the packaging could increase awareness which
leads to more sales.
If you get past the packaging then you might have the other
issue which is the scent. This for me was a deal breaker last year It's what
kept me from bringing it to a video review but now it's kind of growing on me
but I'm still on the fence with it. To give you an idea of what this really
smells like I put together a list of what people have said this scent reminds
them of:
Ivory Soap, Williams shaving puck, Irish Spring, Bad
Chemical Smell, Citronella bug candle, bathroom cleaner, Lemon Pez, Cheap Hospital Soap and my
favorite lemon urinal cake. So, let me know what you think it smells like and
I'll add it to my list.
I bowl lather and I know this is a shave stick but I had to
just try it. It wasn't easy but I managed to place some in the bottom of my
bowl and as soon as the wet brush hit the bowl it lathered like crazy and the
scent even increased but this is where the magic stopped. The slickness and
glide where ok but nothing over the top. The posts shave feel was good as well
but again nothing to call home about. I had a good shave but nothing out of the
ordinary. I think this would be good for someone on a budget who was looking
for a way to get into wet shaving on the cheap.
