Shaving With The Perfect Cup

If I had to pick one of the hardest soaps to make that I sell it would have to be The Perfect Cup. From the moment I thought about doing it I had no idea just how difficult this would be. Finding a way to substitute the water used in soap making for coffee took many trials and errors. I could have just used a scented coffee oil but every artisan was doing that so I wanted mine to be different I wanted it to be the real deal.

Getting to the point of making a product like this took months first I had to find the right coffee to use. South Down in Huntington was a little coffee shop that roasted its own beans. Southdown Coffee's story began in 2014 when Mark Boccard brought his passion for specialty coffee to cafes across Long Island, earning national recognition for expert-level coffee roasting at the 2019 US Coffee Roasters Championship and being mentioned in Food & Wine among the Best Coffee Shops in America. So I knew I was in the right place when I picked a bag of his SALVADOR GUZMAN – HONDURAS for our first coffee shaving soap.

It's Time For Frozen Lemon Ice

I think it is time to break out some of the summer shaving soaps since we had a few very hot and warm days here on Long Island. The one that I reached for is one of my favorites called Frozen Lemon Ice it's a mentholated tart lemon scent that will surely put a smile on your face.

I just love the scent of lemons and you know how much I love menthol this combination is killer for me and once you open the tub BAM tart lemons all around and it just keeps getting stronger.

Once you start to apply you'll notice how rich and creamy the lather is and then the surprise of the menthol will kick in and to me, it's just heaven.

Lathering with leftover Shaving Soap

As stated in this week's video I'm using a shaving soap ball to make a lather with. But what is a shaving soap ball you ask? Good question I can only tell you this is what is left at the end of filling all the tubs when I do a new batch. This doesn't happen all the time but when it does I make a shaving soap ball. This ball can be any scent and size this one happens to be Stranger Shaves. I took the rest that was left in the batch and rolled it into a ball and let it try on the rack along with all the other tubs.

Shaving With Michelle's Wool Fat

This week we use Michelle's Wool Fat shaving soap a hard puck soap that people have had trouble lathering in the past. I have to say I've never had this problem if I had to guess maybe it's due to the different types of water in certain areas I'm not really sure but be that as it may, I did manage to make a nice lather but only after changing the bowl size. In the past, I've always used Michelle's ceramic bowl to lather in which when I purchased the puck the ceramic bowl was included. I found it to be a good bowl but it never had the room that my WTF bowls have and once I switched it I was able to produce a really nice lather almost instantly.

Shaving & Laundry Sauce

On today's Shaving and Talking, we bring out the shaving soap Lagom. I love this scent it's based on Tom Fords White Pachueli. Lagom is Swedish for moderate not too much not too little and it's used in just about everything in Sweden from cooking to one's own life and we used it here in our shaving soap. I learned about this word from a model on Youtube they call her Swea and she goes by her social handle SweaLife her actual name is Estelle Berglin. Blonde, Beautiful, and down to earth. She currently lives in Abu Dhabi. She talked about what the word Lagom means and I thought it would be a perfect name for a shaving soap.
