You often hear things in the shaving community about a shaving soap you must try and this “New Soap” will change your life forever but most of the time it turns out to be so so until someone told me about Signature Soap. I contacted Brian Hood the owner and explained to him I’m always looking for something new to review and he was glad to send me a tub of his shaving soap. I’m disclosing this now so you know it upfront but anyone who sees my youtube channel and reads my articles will tell you I never favor an artisan just because they sent me a product. I’ve always told them that there is a chance you will have a negative one and some don’t take the risk while some have no problems. I’m sure glad Brian decided to send this because his soap is amazing!
I have to be honest here when I say I’m not digging the packaging. We have a black tub with a screw on lid that holds a generous amount of 7.0z and on top of the lid sits this rectangle all text label? it looks very amateurish to me. I would rather see a round label to match the container with a nice graphics but if they wanted to stay with the same look they could combine the ingredients and all other information with the product name and description. This could save him on printing costs but I’m just nitpicking here.
The scent of this soap is more on the spearmint side it contains Aniseed, Spearmint, and Peppermint Essential Oils A natural vegetable shaving soap (Vegan). No Lanolin, No Tallow, No SLS, No Parabens.
To say this soap is on the soft side would be an understatement you can actually scoop it up with your finger if you wanted to. This made it very easy to place it into a shaving bowl. Once I loaded my brush with warm water and started to lather the bowl exposed with taking a little more than a min to have so much on my brush it would have been good for 4 passes or more.
when applying you will notice the scent starting to increase and menthol like feeling from the peppermint. I was able to get right into the beard and it provided great coverage. The slickness and glide were outstanding allowing me not only to go over trouble spots with no irritation but to reactive with just a little water for a final pass just to make sure I got everything.
The post shave feel was also one for the book. The combination of the oils really kicked it up a notch. I have to say it was a very impressive shave.
So, as you can tell I really like the soap it had all the right things going for it except the packaging which like most people if its not popping off the shelf you might pass it by for something that looks better but has less performance. if it wasn’t for someone else telling me to try it I wouldn’t have given this a try. I know that the performance of the product does speak for itself but you have to get people to listen.
