Company: Maggards
Product: Groves Of Italy
Today we have a new sample from Maggard’s Razors. If you don’t know who they are your most likely new to wet shaving. Maggard Razors was established in October 2012. A husband and wife team – Brad and Casie Maggard – has become one of the premier online and retail stores for getting wet shaving products. They have about 10 employees and offer straight razors, safety razors, thousands of wet shaving supplies, and restoration services. One could say they are very successful.
The sample I have is called Groves of Italy. Groves of Italy is a prominently floral scent fragranced with a blend of fragrance oils. Olive leaf, bergamot, Jasmine, Cedar. I hardly detect the cedar but the rest of the scents are present. As stated by other wet shavers this is more of a floral and I would have to agree. This soap was not created by Maggard's but rather they had it created for them by Through the Fire Fine Craft in 2017 but have not seen it promoted as of this writing.
Bowl lathering was not a problem for Grove the sample was more than ample to create a very healthy amount. the lathe provided great coverage and got right into the beard cover all of my faces the lather left on the brush was good for at least a few more passes. Now here’s the part Grove for me was disappointing the slickness and glide were just not high enough for my taste. Anyone who has seen me shave knows I’m more aggressive than most and in doing so rely on a good soap for protection but this just didn’t give me the confidence I needed to shave like I normally would have so for that I give it low marks everything else is just fine. I did have a good post-shave feel which I needed to apply an aftershave balm to help with the irritation that was caused by the lack of protection.
If you want to give this one a try then by all means do so as for me I’ll never go back to it. I now know what to expect and of course, this is just my experience yours most likely would be very different.
