Shaving With Barbasol 1919

Barbasol 1919: Slickness Worth Stepping Outside Your Routine

There’s something satisfying about trying a shaving product that makes you rethink what matters most in a shave. With Barbasol 1919 Classic Shaving Cream, the thing that grabbed my attention was its amazing slickness.

For many of us, building a lather is part of the enjoyment. We like loading a brush, working the cream or soap, and watching a thick, fluffy lather come together. Barbasol 1919 offers a different experience. If you’re a lather kind of guy, this one may not be for you—but I wouldn’t want you to pass it by and miss out on a great shave.

Before I could fully appreciate the cream, though, I had a little problem to sort out.

A Dull Blade at the Start
I began the shave with my Occam’s Razor Nano and noticed that I wasn’t getting the clean shave I expected. It would have been easy to question the cream, but the issue turned out to be a dull blade.

That’s a useful reminder whenever we evaluate a shaving product. The razor, blade, preparation, and cream all contribute to the experience. Even impressive slickness can’t restore a worn-out cutting edge. In this case, the early trouble came down to the blade.

The Slickness Is the Main Attraction
What impressed me most about Barbasol 1919 was the glide. The slickness is excellent, and it gives this cream a strong reason to earn a place in the shaving rotation.

It also reminded me that a mountain of lather isn’t the only way to enjoy a shave. I still appreciate the ritual of building a rich lather, but I can appreciate a product that delivers its performance differently.

Would I Give It a Try?
If thick, billowing lather is your favorite part of wet shaving, approach Barbasol 1919 with that difference in mind. It may not offer the experience you usually look for.

But keep an open mind. I wouldn’t want a preference for fluffy lather to keep you from discovering a cream with such impressive slickness. For me, that was the highlight of this shave—and a good reason to give Barbasol 1919 a chance.

Just make sure your blade is ready for the job!
