Review - L&L Grooming Shaving Soap / Sandalwood & Bergamot

Company: L&L Grooming
Product: Shaving Soap
Founder: Scott Stewart
Location: ACWORTH, GA

Back in December of 2015 I noticed a new startup coming online called L&L Grooming and sent off an email to introduce myself to Scott Stewart the owner. So after about a month had gone by I just figured he just wasn’t interested and moved on but Scott did reply, in fact he replied only an hour later but I never noticed it. The email became buried on my system until February 3, of 2016.  So I rushed out an email to him apologizing for my mistake and he was kind enough to send me a sample of his shaving soap.

Scott is a one man show but you’d never know it from the looks of his website. It seems so active as soon as you land on it. He even has a “Chat Now” feature that lets you talk directly. His brush collection is amazing and If your a SYFI fan, you’ll get the reference to “My God, It’s Full of Stars” when he describes the “Nebula Collection”. Everything is hand crafted from shaving soap to brushes right down to the handles of razors.

I was sent a sample size 1/2oz tin of the sandalwood and bergamot shaving soap and as tins go it’s a nice one. It has a screw on lid which I prefer.

Scott has increased his lineup since he sent me samples back a few months ago. He now offers, Sweet Lemon (Hints of lemongrass & Orange, Woody Coconut Base), And After The Rain (Pine, Lavender with a Woody Base) and finally an unscented version for the purist.
The sample I received is a pure scent, solely a combination of sandalwood and bergamot – no other supporting notes, no chords/accords, nothing, as stated by Scott himself. The sent from the tin is on the light and not overpowering.

The soap is somewhat on the hard side but I had no issues with placing it into the lathering bowl.  I suggest using a brush that has some backbone to it, I find this helps with harder soaps. I did produce and very rich and creamy lather one that had great coverage on my face. The sickness and glide was very good and allowed me to go over spots several time with no issues. The one issue I did have was the scent strength. It disappeared after the shave, even during the lathering I was hoping for an increase but that never happened and that’s the only issue for me other than that the soap worked perfectly in all other areas.
