Shaving With Colgate Mug Soap

Shaving with Colgate Shaving Mug Soap: A Shave with Memories

There’s something about that little red and white Colgate Shaving Mug Soap box that sets the mood for an old-school shave. This week, I spent some time with this familiar classic, finishing with an aftershave that brought back memories of my dad.

The Colgate soap gave me a good lather, and overall, I enjoyed the shave. But nostalgia aside, I want to be honest about the performance: the slickness and glide weren’t the best I’ve experienced.

A good-looking lather is one part of the shave; how the razor moves across the skin is another. In this case, I would have liked a little more cushion in the glide. When I applied my alum block afterward, the noticeable feedback reinforced that impression. That’s part of why I share these shaves—each product has its strengths and shortcomings, even the ones we enjoy revisiting.

The finishing touch was Skin Bracer aftershave, and it fit the mood perfectly. My dad used to wear it. Smelling that familiar scent again brought back memories of him and made this shave feel a little more personal.

It’s remarkable how closely a scent can be tied to someone. You reach for a bottle to finish your shave, and suddenly you’re remembering a person who wore it years ago. For me, that was the most memorable part of the experience.

Colgate Shaving Mug Soap delivered a good lather, although I wished for better slickness and glide. Paired with Skin Bracer, it still made for an enjoyable, nostalgic shave—and a welcome reminder of my dad.

Have you shaved with Colgate Shaving Mug Soap? Is there an aftershave that brings back memories of your father or someone else special? I’d love to hear about it.
