Last week during the Thanksgiving frenzy I found myself at Trader Joes’s. If you don’t have one near you then I’ll explain. Trader Joe's is a neighborhood grocery store with amazing food and drink from around the globe and they also bring in the local fair as well. Great quality at great prices (sometimes) you just have to be careful because you can lose the main reason why you are there and start buying so much more than you need.
While looking for something during my visit I came across a very small section for soaps for men and women and right in front of me was the Trader Joe’s Honey Mango Moisturizing Cream Shave for $6.00. Wow, I thought but wait why is it called cream shave and not shave cream? This is the way they explain it. “This Cream was specifically formulated for us without the use of harsh ingredients and is tested for gentleness. We designed it for sensitive skin—it’s cream-based, non-foaming, free of parabens, and enriched with aloe vera & vitamin E. Many high-end brands advertise their moisturizing shave creams as being gentle and non-irritating. And then they charge you handsomely for the favor. That’s not very gentle. We’ll happily provide the gentle, non-irritating shave cream, along with a gentle price. Trader Joe’s Honey Mango Moisturizing Cream Shave is an excellent everyday skincare product for both men and women, with a refreshing honey mango scent.
Well, it’s only $6.00 so what could I lose for just giving it a try so a placed it in my cart and moved to check out counter.
The packaging was attractive enough to get my attention and also simple to use with a flip-up top which most modern creams have nowadays.
I was really into the mango scent at first but after prolonged use, I got sick of it so make sure you like it before bringing it home because that's one of the reasons I’ll never reach for this again. Another reason would be how messy the shave was with the cream dripping off my face during the shave I found it distracting if you know what I mean.
The cream is relatively soupy not very appealing for the wet shaver but none the less it did lather somewhat. I used a brush and lathering bowl for my first try and had to add more of the cream and water to get a thick established lather going. I think you would be better off with just face lathering with this product. That aside the slickness and glide are on the top end of the scale the side effect of that could have been why it was kind of dripping off my face from time to time during the shave but all in all a very close shave was had but it was kind of messy more than was necessary I think. One thing that was a shock to me was how cold this cream felt once it was applied freezing comes to mind.
So I had a good but messy shave and if you want to try something new then go to Joe’s and see if the scent is something that appeals to you if so, give it a try what do you have to lose.
