There is nothing wrong with those traditional fall fragrances, but with Cienna Nights, I wanted to create something different.

Cienna Nights blends aromatic sage with woodsy cypress, creating a scent that feels fresh, warm, and perfectly suited to the autumn season. The Green Knight is the mysterious figure at the center of the medieval Arthurian poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, generally dated to the late 14th century.

The story begins during a Christmas celebration at King Arthur’s court at Camelot. A gigantic and mysterious knight, completely green in appearance, suddenly enters the hall and proposes an unusual challenge.

One of Arthur’s knights may strike him once with his axe—but that knight must agree to meet the Green Knight one year and one day later and receive the same blow in return.

Shaving With The Son Of Zeus

There are shaving soaps with names that are fairly straightforward, and then there are soaps called Son of Zeus. With a name like that, you expect something with a little power and personality behind it.

For this shave, I brought out RazoRock Son of Zeus Italian Shaving Soap.

Even before building the lather, the presentation sets the stage. The black tub, dark label and fiery Son of Zeus artwork give the soap a bold appearance that feels right at home with its mythological name.

But packaging only gets a shaving soap so far. Eventually, the brush has to hit the soap.

Shaving With Captain's Choice Eucalyptus

Tonight I’m shaving with **Captain’s Choice Eucalyptus**, a soap that I’ve used before and was more than happy to bring back into the rotation.

Captain’s Choice describes their Eucalyptus as a crisp and refreshing take on this classic scent, and I think that describes it pretty well. There’s plenty of eucalyptus here, along with a touch of spearmint that gives it a fresh, invigorating character without turning the shave into an overpowering menthol experience.

What really impressed me the last time I used this soap was how well it performed even after sitting unused for quite some time. A little water and a good brush brought it right back to life, producing plenty of rich lather with the slickness and glide I want from a shaving soap.

Shaving With Barbus Active

Today I’m shaving with **Barbus Active Shaving Soap**, and I have to say, this turned out to be an excellent shave.

Barbus is one of those traditional shaving products that keeps things fairly simple, but sometimes simple is exactly what works. The soap produced a very nice lather, gave me good slickness and protection throughout the shave, and made for a really enjoyable experience from start to finish.

In this video, I’ll show you how Barbus Active performs during an actual shave and give you my thoughts along the way. As always, there’s no complicated testing—just a real shave and my impressions of the product as I use it.

Wings Stop - for the last time

We have a new Wing Stop in Huntington on Jericho Turnpike. A few weeks ago, I visited it for the first time since I’ve been following its construction. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.  

As the sign clearly states, this establishment specializes in selling wings. If you’re a garlic lover, you’re in for a culinary delight because garlic is a key ingredient in almost every dish they serve, even when you wouldn’t anticipate it. For instance, you’ll find garlic in their French fries and even in their plain wings. While I’m not sure if this is a unique feature of this particular location, it was my personal experience. I must admit, I’m not a fan of having garlic where I didn’t ask for it. 

They serve boneless or traditional wings with the bone. I prefer the latter. When it comes to flavors, they offer 16 options. Nine of them are hot, one is mild, three have no heat, and one is plain. Which I found out is a lie. Everything, like I said, that is plain has a garlic taste. What with all the spicy flavors? When did this trend of catering only to those who prefer spicy food start? Most likely originate from cooking shows? Come on, provide people who must avoid spicy food with a wider variety of options. 

After my initial experience, I returned the following week and opted for the boneless option this time. I was particularly interested in trying the Hawaiian flavor and even requested a taste, which seemed to unsettle the staff. They informed me that they were not permitted to provide a sample, leaving me uncertain about whether I would enjoy it. Once they realized my concerns, they kindly offered me a small cup of it, but unfortunately, I found it unappealing. Consequently, I decided to order the blue cheese instead. 

When I returned home and opened the bag, the aroma of garlic filled the air. As I pulled out the fries and then the wings, I noticed that the wings were generously coated in Hawaiian sauce, which I had explicitly requested to be left off. So much for having it my way. Determined to enjoy the wings, I managed to consume a few, dipping them into blue cheese, approximately five out of the ten I had ordered. However, the overpowering combination of garlic and Hawaiian sauce was simply too much for me to handle at once. Consequently, I decided to discard the remaining wings and call it a night. 

Perhaps your experience will be better than mine. The place seemed busy, so I suppose you could say we have many garlic lovers in Huntington, New York.

Quick Save With Tayler Of Old BondStreet

Late night, so a quick shave at 11:00PM with Taylor of Old Bond Street. I was working on a few projects that turned out to be harder than I thought they would be. Programming in Swift, and then I had to get a Developer's License just so people could use it. Shaving With Don's Vetiver

Today, I am utilizing Don’s Vetiver, formerly known as Grey’s Vetiver, which Google has requested me to modify. I have no objections to this change. However, I have accumulated numerous labels bearing the previous name, and I intend to utilize them all before printing the new ones. Nevertheless, the website prominently displays the updated name.

This shaving soap is also available in a tallow version, which has garnered positive feedback from customers. Notably, several of its top-selling products are in the tallow formulation and have received exceptional reviews.

The scent I have been told is spot on, but of course, everyone's sense of smell is different. The reviews have always been on the positive side. The shave today went very well. I bowl lathered, which resulted in a wonderful lather. This was applied with my WTF brush, and it provided amazing coverage. The slickness and glide were above board, allowing for an irritation-free shave. The post-shave feel was fantastic as well.

Shaving With ARKO

Today, I use what some Wet Shavers treat as the holy grail of shaving products, I'm speaking of the Arko Shaving Stick, the original. One can say this has its own cult following, and until recently, I never thought I would say this, but I'm starting to ask for the Kool-Aid.

I was not one for the scent at all. In fact, when I first used this product, I wanted to make a video but couldn't get past it, and I waited a year to finally set that aside and give it another try.

Not having used a stick before, I applied it incorrectly and was quickly made aware of this faux pas. The next time I used it, I was ready to make things right and followed the steps given to me for a perfect shave with Arko.

Now that I have used the Arko stick many times, I no longer think the scent is terrible; in fact, I kind of like it now, which I absolutely thought would never happen.

Price and performance are what make this one so attractive. What you get for the money can't be beat. The slickness and glide are just as good as those of other sticks. Maybe it's the tallow, I'm not sure, but if you've never tried this one before, go online and order one, you will be surprised, I guarantee it.

After looking around the website, I found two that I didn't know about: Brilliantine for the hair, which is a new one for me, but I'm sure it's been around for a while. Also, Barber Spray's for that longer-lasting scent that carries through the day.

Shaving With Proraso Red

Today, I use what every wet shaver should have in their den, I'm talking about Proraso. Pick a scent that you like and make a purchase, you can thank me later.

Founded in Florence, Italy, in 1926, Proraso has become one of the most respected names in traditional wet shaving. For nearly a century, the company has produced quality shaving products that combine classic Italian craftsmanship with dependable performance. Shaving with eShave White Tea

If you are new to the company e-shave, I recommend trying the White Tea. An amazing scent on this one for me, and I have been chasing it ever since.

Light but not too light, it's just the right amount of everything.

This could not be any easier to load onto a brush, which is the method I used in the video. I just dipped a wet brush in and twisted it a few times, and this loaded the perfect amount, which created an amazing lather. The coverage was fantastic, and the slickness and glide were great. The post-shave feel was one for the books.

The eShave experience is one I think you will enjoy. If white Tea is not your thing, they have a few other scents in the product line: lavender, Almond, Verbena Lime, Orange Sandalwood, Floral, and fragrance-free.

When it comes to aftershaves, they don't have the traditional splash but offer what they call an Aftershave smoother, which, as far as I can see, is an aftershave balm. I've never used one before, so I can't comment on its effectiveness.

Shaving With Palmolive Shave Cream

Today I had the pleasure of using Palmolive Shaving Cream. Anyone who has used it knows what I'm talking about when I say it was a pleasure because it's just that good, and the best part is it's only a few bucks.

When I'm in a bind and want to get the job done, this is what I often reach for, on or off camera. It makes no difference. I have a few that I select from, and this is one of them. It's easy and fast, and you know it's going to work no matter how you apply it. On a brush in a bowl, face lather, massage it in; it makes no difference. Today I used a wet brush, placed a little in the bristles, and just started to face lather. It worked perfectly.

I personally have a problem with creams; they tend to dry out before the shave is over, but this time I was quick, and it really was a wonderful shave.

On Prime this week, I saw "Sarah's Oil" and "I don't think he'll get too far on foot."

Shaving with La-Savonniere-Du-Moulin

Today I have the pleasure of using a shaving soap that I purchased about 11 years ago. It was all the rage with the wet shaving community. The strange thing about it was the packaging. People had issues with it and didn't understand its function. Every wetshaving YouTuber had their own theories, but it all came down to this. The packaging was a way for the product to dry correctly, and that is all.

As far as the shave goes, it is an amazing experience to use the lather, which is fantastic, slickness and glide are very good, and the post-shave feel is high on the list.

I'm not sure if this is sold anymore; if it is, it's not in the same packaging, which might be a good thing. I would say if you can find it, give it a try.

Gracie's Hot Dogs

There was a place right off exit 70 on the LIE that I always stopped at when my wife and I ventured to the Hamptons. Grace's hot dog stand in Manorville. It started as a hot dog truck serving passersby in the 70s and 80s, and they got so popular that they transitioned into a brick-and-mortar restaurant. It served so many that lines would be out the door during the peak of summer. The best part is that you could eat indoors or at one of the picnic tables outside. 

The service was great, and everyone, including the staff, was so happy to be there; you might even run into someone you met the last time you stopped by; it was what people coined a "Must Stop."

For years, we would tell people who didn't know about it. We even discussed what we would order as we got closer to heading out to the Hamptons, but one day it was gone. We saw it had closed for good. Both my wife and I became so angry at what we just witnessed. How could this icon be taken from the community without even a whisper? 

As it turns out, there had been things going on in the background for years that we never knew about, like zoning issues. This was a major problem. It might have been so big that the owners saw no way out of what could have been a very expensive court battle. So they did what anyone else would do: they sold the property in 2002 for $1.3 million. This allowed them to move and retire to Florida. Unfortunately, her retirement did not last that long; she passed away seven years later. 

For the next few years, my wife and I would pass that spot, look at each other, and talk about Gracies with fond memories and how amazing the dirty dogs were. To this day, I have never found a hot dog better than what was served at Gracies.

Shaving With Spices From The Sea

Today I'll be using Spices From The Sea. This is one of my favorite shaving soaps. When I told you I was not sure this was going to come back into production, I meant it. Finding all the notes for this profile was hard, but once I did, something else happened: these new oils have changed the shaving soap properties in a good way. The soap is way creamier, and the lather is outstanding. Let's not forget the scent is pretty much spot on with Old Spice, and everyone that I have sold this to thinks so as well.

The lather penetrated the beard and provided excellent coverage along with its superior slickness and glide, for an irritation-free shave. I think the best part is the post-shave feel, and once you use the aftershave splash, you can hear the Old Spice song in your head.

Shaving With Mr. Warlock

Today I'm using Mr. Warlock shaving soap. This was named after the children's Christmas movie, Santa Claus is Coming to Town. This movie has stuck with me since it was released in 1970, some 56 years ago. It starred the voices of Fred Astaire, Mickey Rooney, Keenan Wynn, who, by the way, was the voice of Mr. Warlock, and Robie Lester as Mr.s Jessica. Mickey and Robie play Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus.

The scent for this shaving soap is based on Eucalyptus, with Camphor, and icy Peppermint, with the added bonus of Menthol. It makes a powerful statement, one like no other, and wet shavers who use it tend to agree that it's a unique experience.

The lather is easy to make, and the slickness and glide are top-notch. The post-shave feel will be remembered, and to top it off, the splash will allow you to take this good feeling with you for some time.

Shaving With Cuban Tobacco

I went back to one of the soaps that started it all, Cuban Tobacco. An amazing scent that takes all the guessing out of what this represents. Easy to lather and place in a bowl, spreads with just a finger, and in seconds, you're ready to make a lather.

Use a brush to ensure complete coverage of the beard. The soap's slickness and glide will allow your razor to move effortlessly over challenging areas without causing irritation. The post-shave feel is great, and the aftershave just tops off the shave nicely.

Aramis - New From Wet The Face

Introducing Aramis – A New Addition to the Three Musketeers Shaving Soap series from Wet The Face. As a Musketeer, he is one of the great three. Aramis is a handsome, quiet, and somewhat foppish. He constantly protests that he is only temporarily in the Musketeers and that any day now he will return to the Church to pursue his true calling. Aramis has a mysterious mistress, Madame de Chevreuse, a high noblewoman, whose existence and identity he tries to keep from his friends.

Aramis stands out from the other musketeers because he’s refined, intellectual, and deeply religious. While the others often lean into bravado or physical strength, Aramis is more:

Shaving With 1K Light Blue

Today I use 1K light blue. This is based on Dolce & Gabbana's Light Blue for men. This is one of my favorites, and I'm sure it would be one of yours, too. I took the time this week to bowl lather, so glad I did. What a pleasure it was not to rush and go through my routine without worry this week.

If you know my soap base, you know it's a lather monster, and combined with our WTF shaving bowl, you can't lose. A word on the shaving bowls: they are in transit at the time of this writing and just might be back in stock this weekend, so if you're looking for one, check the website. Also, the WTF brush is now in progress. Amy, our pottery artisan, is going to try her hand at making a prototype, so my fingers are crossed that she is successful. If so, it shouldn't be long until we have them here.

Shaving With Taylor Of Old Bond Street Cream

This week was a doozy. I had to go to the hematologist to get blood work done. Then, on the way back, an old friend of mine from high school called, whom I have not seen since the 80s. I worked with Brian and his brother, Paul, as a draftsman for their father’s company for about 4 to 5 years. I learned a lot, and we had a great time doing it.

Brain got right to the point and told me Paul had passed away from his battle with cancer, and the funeral was this weekend. So after the shock of hearing that, I got ready to see him one last time.

I need to get the gears in motion, so I remembered I had this tube of Taylor of Old Bond Street, which was perfect. No bowl lather, just a quick dab on the finger tips and massaged it right into the beard. Lots of slickness and glide, so the shave was effortless with no irritation. Post-shave feel was great, and the aftershave sealed the deal for a shave well done.

A word about my friendship with the brothers, when I finally moved on to what I went to school for, I came back to modernize their business. I was dating a girl at the time who was selling Wang computers, and we modernized the accounting. Then I introduced them to the Macintosh, and that changed everything for them.

Shaving With Ghost Ship

Today, I use something that's been in the den since I started wet shaving videos. The company went under a different name back then; it was called Beaver Woodright. Then, it changed to Black Ship Grooming, and now, yet another metamorphosis is happening. I refocus, if you will, but I'm not sure what the refocus will be.

Black Ship Grooming, formerly known as Beaver Wood, was established by Kelly Hogan, the owner of the now-rebranded establishment. Despite the name change, the exceptional quality of their shaving soaps and aftershaves remains undeniable. Interestingly, the company’s origins trace back to its initial production of pens and rolling pins. The name “Beaver Woodright” was inspired by Kelly Hogan’s residence in Beaver, Pennsylvania, and his exceptional woodworking skills, which earned him the title of “woodright.” In 2015, the company shifted its focus to pirate-themed shaving soaps and accessories. This change was prompted by numerous customer feedback at shows, where the previous name was deemed unsuitable. After discussing the matter with his wife, Black Ship Grooming was born.

Shaving With Godnej Shaving Cream

Today I use Godnej Shaving Cream. If you have never tried it, let me say that for the price, it can't be beat. It has a sort of lemon scent, but not overpowering. Performance-wise, let's just say this has been in my den since 2014. Once I found it again, I noticed the plastic cap had broken, and the shaving cream was exposed to the air. Even after this long time, the shaving cream came right back to life without a hitch. If that's not worth $4.50, then I don't know what is.

As you can see by the video, the shave was a good one. The lather got right into the beard, providing great coverage. The slickness and glide were very good, allowing for an irritation-free shave, and the post-shave feel amazing. All in all, a wonderful shave.

If you stay to the end of the video, you can see the new UV printer at work, creating product labels for Wet the Face. As soon as all the paper labels are gone, all of the products will be labeled this way. No more sending artwork out to the printers and then waiting a week for it to arrive, only to find out the colors are off and it needs to be reprinted again.

HC&C BACK IT & JACK IT - Wet The Face Review

Today, we have something new from HC&C called Back It & Jack It. This Shaving Soap is a men’s artisan shave soap scented with a fragrance inspired by Polo Red from Ralph Lauren. Back It & Jack It is a gambling term used by professional pool players.

Bright, bold, and energetic, Back It & Jack It opens with a vibrant burst of citrus and fruity freshness led by cranberry, grapefruit, and Italian lemon. As it develops, saffron, sage, and lavender bring warm aromatic depth and a slightly spicy edge that keeps the fragrance feeling smooth and modern.

The Wonder of it all

As an IT professional, I frequently utilize the internet for work purposes. When I encountered advertisements for Wonder, I felt compelled to investigate further. Consequently, I made the first-ever in-person purchase from their establishment. My intention was to gain a comprehensive understanding of their operations.

I visited the location situated at 825 New York Ave in Huntington. Interestingly, there is also a nearby establishment in Melville that I was previously unaware of. While I am uncertain if there were any discernible differences between the two, I am hopeful that there may be. Upon entering the establishment, I was met with a solitary individual seated on a stool, awaiting an order that required delivery. In fact, during my wait for my order to be prepared, the only individuals who entered the premises were delivery personnel.

Upon my arrival, I observed several tables and bar-style stools positioned near the windows. Additionally, there are two kiosk stations located directly in front of the entrance, which are easily visible upon entering. The remainder of the building is dedicated to the assembly cooking process. They employ a “hub-and-spoke” model, wherein components are pre-cooked or prepared at a central commissary kitchen. Meals are primarily prepared at a central facility to ensure consistency across various brands (e.g., Bobby Flay, Jose Andres). While the establishment is primarily designed for delivery, many locations in New York City offer limited, on-site, in-person ordering and dining options. As previously mentioned, the location I visited was unable to accommodate the lunch rush at a McDonald’s.

Shaving With C.O. Bigelow

Last week, we had a nor'easter, and things got covered in snow all over N.Y. The LIRR stopped all trains to the city, which made my boss not a happy camper. I was able to come in on Tuesday, but the regular train schedule was all crazy. This made an hour-10-minute trip take 2 hours.

So today I used C.O. Bigelow just because I know I can get this shave on and over with in a few mins because I'm exhausted. I wet the face and then placed a little in my hand and massaged it into the beard. This made a fantastic lather. This allowed me to have an irritation-free shave with no worries of nicks or cuts of any kind.

The post-shave feel was a good one, and the Quite Man after-shave just sealed the deal.

Alien Shave The Barber - Wet The Face Review

Today we have something new from Alien Shave: it's called "The Barber." A cherry-scented Talow-based shaving soap. The base is called Genuine Formula 51t - Grass Fed Beef Tallow, Stearic Acid, Distilled Water, Shea Butter, Horsetail Butter, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Coconut Acid, Fragrance, Sodium Hydroxide. They also have a 51G, which is Drenched in Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, and Goat Milk, and a 51ct Soft Cream Top Shaving Soap.

This comes in a very wide tub, which you can use for loading your brush with or, like me, lather it in a bowl. All soaps are different, and this soap makes an amazing velvet lather, not a crazy fluffy lather, but one that is drenched in creamy goodness. This is evident once you start applying it to your face. It's a great experience.

Once I started the shave, you could tell how the soap, with its slickness and glide, was protecting my face, allowing my razor to go over trouble spots without the fear of irritation. The best part was the post-shave feel, which was extremely nice.

All in all, I had a wonderful shave with The Barber, and if you give it a try, I know you will too.

Shaving With White Lotus

Today I'm using White Lotus. It was my take on White Tea, one that came out so good, I decided to make a bar soap. To this day, only one person has it. It was sent out with no label. The reason for this is that the printer I am waiting for never arrived as promised. As soon as it does, the labels will be printed and then available to the public on the website.

White Lotus Shaving Soap is a fragrance inspired by elegance and tranquility. While its name nods to the popular TV series, that’s where the similarity ends — because this is an experience all its own.

Shaving with Ingram

I have a few favorite shaving creams, and one of them I'm using today is called Ingram. Back in 2017, I was given a box containing shaving products from my friend in the UK. This is another staple of the UK; the other shaving cream is Palmolive. I’ve seen it advertised on websites there for as low as $2.00. If you look for this now, you'll find prices wildly vary up to 40 dollars and beyond. Looks are deceiving with Ingram packaging because this understated-looking shaving cream is one of the best I’ve used.

I placed a fair amount in my brush, soaked the brush under water, and wet my face. Within seconds, I created an amazing amount, which provided great coverage and got right into the beard. The slickness and glide from the lather allowed me to have an irritation-free shave. The post-shave feel was one you need to experience due to its menthol content, just the right amount.

I highly recommend this Ingram if you have not tried it before or are seeking a novel product to explore. If you have a menthol preference, as I do, you will not be disappointed.

Shaving With Elvado

The first time I used this soap was in 2017, the second was in 2022, and now, in 2026, I'm using it once more. 3 times in 9 years, not a glowing recommendation, but with so many soaps and hardware items to review, this is what happens. This is in no way a reflection on Elvado's performance.

Elvado Grooming, an Ontario, Canada-based artisan, returned to business around mid-2023 after closing in 2019. The brand relaunched with a new website, www.elvadogrooming.com, featuring new label designs and, as of early 2024, new scents like "Amalfi Breeze" and the return of "Woodland Reserve". They continue to produce plant-based, botanical-rich shaving creams and soaps.

When you least expect it something goes wrong

When making YouTube videos, things happen, and during this SOTD, they happened to me. Here I am showing the Deep shaving gel I was going to use, and the can malfunctions. I have never had a can of shaving cream ever in my years of shaving, malfunction like the one that did on that day.

I had to quickly reset and pick something else to use. Luckily, I had a few to choose from, and the one I selected was the Dandy Gent Shaving Cream. This is a lime Shaving Cream that is handmade in the UK, noted for its slickness, allowing your razor to glide smoothly over your face, for an irritation-free shaving experience.

I didn't want to bowl lather, so I took my brush and touched it to the shaving cream in the jar. I did this a few times, making sure I had a good amount on the brush before starting to face-lather. This created an amazing amount of lather with the great scent of lime, which held up during the entire shave.

Spices From the Sea Is Back!

I finally get to say this: Spices From the Sea is back in stock! That's what I'll be using in today's SOTD. I can't even begin to express the difficulty of finding all the things I needed to continue making this. One of the most requested shaving soaps and aftershave products we have in the Wet The Face catalog. Over a year of waiting and trying all kinds of alternative combinations, till I found the right one and everything started to click.

I feel this new scent is closer to the original Old Spice than before. Same base formula, so you know it's going to have plenty of lather, slickness, and glide. My shave was fantasic providing all the described lather, slickness, glide, and the post-shave feel was a good one as well. Even though I feel this is spot on, let me know how you feel

Lodge 49 Shave

Today I'm using Lodge 49. The title is derived from a TV series on AMC starring Wyatt Russell. Although the series was met with positive reviews, AMC canceled the series after its second season due to low ratings. Such a shame because the audience is left hanging, and we will never know what happened.

But what I do know is this shave was fantastic, the lather was thick and creamy, it got right into the beard and allowed for my razor to have an irritation-free shave. Plenty of slickness and glide. This ended with a post-shave feel that was very satisfying

1k Light Blue Two Pass Shave

Today, we use our 1K Membership shaving soap, now rebranded as the 1K Light Blue, with a new name and label, same amazing scent. We have only a few left in white tubes, so now is the time.

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue has been one of my favorite scents for some time, and when we finally reached 1K members in our Facebook group, that was the scent I used to celebrate the milestone. Now I get to use it for this shave, and if you haven't tried it, let me say you're missing something.

I also used the 1K aftershave, and when I woke up the next morning, I could still enjoy the scent. Not too many aftershaves do that, but this one did.
