A few weeks ago I received an email from Yasir a wet shaver who is part of our community. He went on to explain that he ordered a jar of St James Of London shaving cream but was having skin irritations and thought that I might like to try it and do a review on it since he’s not able to use it going forward. I thanked him for his generous offer and assured him I would indeed do a review. So here as promised is the review on the 1953 classic St. James of London Shaving Cream.



The packaging on this product is certainly eye-catching even including the inside of the box. I just love the glass jar. If you only had this in your den it’s designed in such a way to be attractive enough to leave on the counter until your next shave.

The scent on this cream is fantastic Cedarwood & Clarysage formula is the first and original cedarwood-inspired fragrance that provides authentic, yet soothing earthy elements with a hint of spicy pepper and soothing notes of Bay Rose and Geranium. I found this scent to last a long time after the shave which most wet shavings will enjoy.

Forget about bowl lathering you don’t need it with this cream although I’m sure if you wanted to you could. I placed just a small dollop on my fingers and started to apply it and then following it up with a wet brush by working it in with a circular motion right into the beard and before long I was able to great a wonderful lather that provided excellent coverage.

I used a razor rock slant for this shave and being a slant its a little more aggressive than a reg DE razor that being said the shaving cream allowed the slant with greater slickness and glide for a cleaner safer shave without the fear of irritation. My post shave feel was a good one as well.

 So my experience with St James of London was a good one and I’m sad that Yasir was not able to continue using it. One would hope he’s able to use another scent because this was a very enjoyable experience.
