The Toaster That Wouldn't Die!

It was 35 years ago right after we had been married that Mary and I moved into our first place together on Long Island, Village in the woods co-op apartments it was called and we had an amazing time surrounded by other newlyweds. We tried to furnish our place the best we could with the money we collected from our wedding. My wife did an amazing job designing our home and transforming it into something wonderful. We stayed in this co-op for over 10 years until we purchased a house in 2000.

I’m not much into interior design but the two things I did help with were a 35’ Mitsubishi Color TV which at the time was the biggest you could buy and a Siemens TT9110 Porsche Toaster. Yes, you read that right a Porsche-designed toaster. This toaster cost $200.00 and at the time it was different than any other I'd seen. I just started a new I.T. job and felt that even if this was over the top and not necessary it was going to be ok. It would be something that would remind us of this time in our lives and for the most part, it did.

On the other hand, my wife was convinced that this toaster was not going to last and that the money would be better suited for something else but in the end, she gave in and I purchased the toaster. Mary told me this toaster better last forever for that money and I do believe her words might have cast a spell over it.

Over the years this toaster has been flawless, the toast always comes out perfectly and has never missed a beat. Since then time has moved on and toaster designs and styles have changed but this damn thing is still going strong. How much longer do I have to wait for this thing to die? it’s been 35 years now and I don’t see any signs of failure on the horizon. It still performs just the way it did all those years ago. I can’t recall anything that I have purchased since then lasting this long without any issues.

I looked on eBay and have seen only three offerings for this toaster. One going for $50.00 preowned with the original box and all paperwork but it needs a new heating element. The second one $149.99 also needs a heating element and has all its paperwork and the third one is going for $299.99 used in working condition. One could say that the purchase proved to be a good one and was worth the purchase price but my god it's just time for something new. Mary might have been right when she said for the money it better last forever.
