Well, we did it, our FaceBook group has now reached over one thousand subscribers and were still growing. In anticipation of this event, I promised to release a shaving soap on the day we reached 1K. So, on March forth Joe Gajcevic became our one-thousandth member and with this milestone achieved I give you our FaceBook 1K Shaving Soap, Aftershave, Aftershave Balm based on Dolce & Gabanna's Light Blue for men. 

Light Blue is a masculine fragrance by Dolce & Gabbana. The scent was launched in 2007 and the fragrance was created by perfumer Alberto Morillas. Top Notes: Sicilian mandarin, frozen grapefruit peel, Bergamot, Juniper Heart Notes: Rosemary, Szechuan pepper, Rosewood Base Notes: Musk wood, Incense, Oakmoss.

Our first giveaway this year was sponsored by Through The Fire and the soap was Deuces Wild including the aftershave. What a community response we had one of the biggest participation’s in a giveaway to date and that seemed to set the stage for the rest of the year with record numbers entering. One of the surprises for me was when I asked Maria if she wanted to send the giveaway winners prize out herself and she agreed what I didn’t expect to see was a delivery from Thought The Fire at Wet The Face. When I opened the package she sent me the same shaving soap and splash for myself how incredibly nice is that! So this leads to our review today.

As I was reading email last week I came across one from Cold River Soap Works and just took a peek and what he had going on and I found something I’ve never seen before but I’m sure it been out for a while sheep milk shaving soap called Schapnmelk. If you read the description you find they are paying homage to their dutch heritage. This soap is made with sheep milk and tallow plus lanolin and shea butter.

This soap is hand-wrapped with a modest label holding its packaging. Easy to remove but when it comes to pucks I never know what to do with them once I’m done so I just leave them in the lathering bowl.

Gillette is watching. Yes, Gillette is watching the wet shaving community and that’s a good thing. Last year Gillette released a Heritage Collectible DE Safety Razor in the classic clamshell case and man did that cause excitement in the community. For me, it was something I had to have and apparently so did many others because it didn’t take long before the SOLD OUT sign was posted on the only outlet selling them which was Amazon. For this to happen so quickly could only signal that there is a need for this kind of thing and I can assure you if Gillette decides to do this with another vintage product this frenzy will happen again.

There comes a point when the soap maker has to improve on his or her base formula. The soap maker always strives to make it the best it could be. When it comes down to it, the scent is only 40% of what makes a great shaving soap. The wet shaving space is growing and with that growth comes new ideas new ways of doing things and for this reason, you must keep improving on your base. If you fail to do so you could wind up closing the doors like we’ve seen so many others do in the past.

Nor Easter & Barbasol Shave

This week we have one more razor to test and that’s the Barbasol from Joe Watt. He told me to be careful with this razor it was very aggressive. After he told me I had second thoughts about using it. A few years ago I had a bad experience with using an aggressive razor that nearly ruined my face it took over two weeks and lots of care to get it back to point of doing reviews again. Not a lot of fun I can tell you but I was determined not to miss this opportunity so I used pre-shaving oil and a blade that I had already used for a few weeks which in my mind would allow an aggressive razor to be a little tamer and it worked!

Most people know by now that I find my Occam’s Razor Nano to be one of my go-to razors in my collection. My recent review of the Occam’s Enoch Razor was so disappointing. My disappointment must have shown through the video as well with subscribers reaching out trying to help. Some have suggested a new blade the Schick P-30 Proline Artist Club Style Blades which I ordered and just came in today.
